Sambar - south Indian lentil stew made with vegetables, lentils and a special blend of spices. Unfortunately, most of the restaurants here make really bad sambar. Sambar is one of the most popular traditional Indian dishes that is not only healthy & nutritious but also tastes It is believed that sambar provides a complete nutrition to our body as it is protein packed.

Sambar is one of the most favored of recent trending foods in the world. It is appreciated by millions daily. It’s easy, it is quick, it tastes yummy. They are fine and they look wonderful. Sambar is something which I have loved my whole life.

To begin with this recipe, we have to first prepare a few components. You can cook sambar using 23 ingredients and 4 steps. Here is how you cook it.

The ingredients needed to make Sambar:
  1. Get 2 cups Pigeon Pea(Arhar Daal)
  2. Get 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
  3. Make ready 3 tablespoons Imli pulp
  4. Make ready Salt
  5. Get Veggies for sambhar
  6. Prepare Brinjal
  7. Make ready Potatoes
  8. Take Radish
  9. Make ready Carrot
  10. Prepare Drumsticks

  13. Get For Tadka
  14. Take 1 tablespoon Mustard seeds
  15. Make ready 2-3 Dry red chillies
  16. Take 2-3 Bay leaves
  17. Prepare Few curryleaves
  18. Make ready Onions (diced)
  19. Take 1 tablespoon Garam masala
  20. Take 1 tablespoon Red chilli powder
  21. Prepare 1 tablespoon Coriander powder
  22. Take 1 1/2 tablespoon Sambhar Masala
  23. Take 2 tablespoons garlic (chopped)

Sambar accompanies many South Indian meals, like dosa, idli, rice. One can say South Indian meal is not complete without Sambar. I have used homemade sambar powder to make sambar recipe. But store-bought powder will work Wash and chop all the veggies you want to add to the sambar.

Instructions to make Sambar:
  1. Soak Daal for 1 hr…Add daal, vegetables, turmeric powder and Salt in a cooker..and cook it to 4-5 whistles.. once it is done mash it add imli pulp and keep it aside
  2. For tadka in a kadhai add oil…once it is hot add mustard seeds when it starts crackling add red chillies, curry leaves and bay leaves…then add garlic and cook till it is golden brown then add onions
  3. Once onions start frying and release oil add all the Dry spices and add this tadka in your sambhar and mix well…Your Sambhar is ready
  4. Garnish sambhar with coriander leaves and serve hot with Idlis,Rice,Dosa etc…

I have used carrots, baingan (small. Sambar podi, or sambar powder, is a an important ingredient found in South Indian kitchens.
