Some variations of sambhar include ingredients such as moong dal and pumpkin. Since a variety of mixed vegetables are also used to make sambhar it becomes nutrient rich. Sambar recipe shared here is the one which has been followed by my mum for several decades.

To begin with this particular recipe, we have to prepare a few ingredients. You can cook sambhar using 14 ingredients and 13 steps. Here is how you cook it.

The ingredients needed to make Sambhar:
  1. Get 1/2 cup Pigeon peas split
  2. Prepare 1 Tomato
  3. Take 1 cup You maymix vegetables of your choice
  4. Prepare 2 tbsp Tamarind juice
  5. Make ready for tadka
  6. Prepare 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  7. Prepare 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  8. Get 6-7 Curry leaves
  9. Prepare to taste salt
  10. Prepare 1 Dry red chilli
  11. Make ready 1/4 tsp Hing/asafoetida
  12. Prepare 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  13. Take 2 tsp Sambhar masala
  14. Get 2 tbsp Oil

From Daman India. (Sambhar, Kadamba Sambar, Kalyana Sambar). Sambar is a south Indian dish made with lentils (usually toor dal) and vegetables and served with white rice, idlis or dosa. Idli Sambar Recipe with stepwise photos. One of the best tiffin sambar recipe i must say.

Instructions to make Sambhar:
  1. Take a cooker, add dal and vegetables of your choice.
  2. Add 2 cup approx water, haldi powder, salt and stir it.
  3. Close the lid and put it on gas stove.
  4. Boil it for 7 to 8 mnts on medium flame.
  5. After 8 whistle, turn of the flame. Open it carefully.
  6. Mix it well.
  7. Add 1/2 cup water. And hand blender to make the sambhar smooth.
  8. For tadka, heat the pan, add oil, cumin seed, mustard seed, curry leaves and dry red chilli and hing.
  9. Add red chilli powder, sambhar masala mix it well.
  10. Put the tadka in dal.
  11. Mix it well, then add tamarind pulp. Add 1 cup water. Stir it well. Cover it for 10 mints.
  12. Sambhar is ready.
  13. Serve.

Note : It is better to add the tamarind juice after the vegetables are tenderly. The wedding sambhar is thicker than the variety made at home and also uses more vegetables.
